9th & hill
9th & Hill, formerly known as the May Company Garage, was one of the nation’s first parking garages. The structure was designed in 1926 by famed architecture firm Curlett and Beelman, and still stands strong as a proud part of Downtown LA’s vibrant history.
Today, the building has been designated as a Historical-Cultural Monument. Given its location in the Historic Core District, 9th & Hill sits amidst the center of Los Angeles’ downtown revitalization efforts. Markwood has focused its efforts on redeveloping 9th & Hill as the neighborhood strengthens its reputation as the epicenter of a world-class downtown destination.
Currently, Markwood is fully engaged in an adaptive reuse development plan for the building. Central to the transformation is the strategic preservation of the building’s history during its restoration, while also enhancing the property to meet the existing and future needs of the city’s bustling center.
